I love Iceland! I love the people, the scenery and the culture. After living in Iceland and going on many adventures myself, I have the knowledge and experience to work with others to plan a trip that not only has that WOW factor but becomes something to talk about for years to come.

What places and activities do you specialize in?

"All of Iceland, self drive trips and guided tours.
Having lived in the Westfjords and travelled within Iceland myself I have knowledge and experience of some of the best spots to visit, both the well known tourist destinations and the more 'off the beaten track' areas too. "

How did you get involved in travel?

"I am an adventurer, it is in my blood. I began traveling as soon as I was old enough to head out into the world on my own. I lived and worked in many places from the small islands of the Caribbean to the snowy mountains in Northern Sweden. After travelling to New Zealand and Australia I finally settled in the Westfjords of Iceland with my family. Now I work for 'Iceland Offbeat' planning amazing trips for people around this wonderful island that is Iceland."

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"There are so many to chose from! But here are a few.....

* Taking part in the annual 'rotten food' festival near Ísafjörður and experiencing Hakarl (fermented shark) with the locals!

* Accidentally finding a natural hot spring whilst on a 7 hour road trip, just bubbling up from the ground. Of course we had to stop for a paddle even though it was minus conditions!

* My car breaking down, on a dead end road 'somewhere' in the Westfjords of Iceland with my teething 9 month old and toddler in tow. We eventually got rescued but had a great time watching the sea birds and eating blueberries from the mountainside whilst we waited.

* My biggest and best experience of all is the nature and scenery and people, their kind and friendly nature and laid back ways. "

The only reason I give it 4 stars is because we didn't actually get to go on the snowmobiles due to a snow storm the day prior to our experience. The super jeep would not be able to pass through the snow. They had to pivot and take us on the ATVs. We were very disappointed, but had a really good time on the ATVs anyway. They did offer a full refund, scheduling a different day with snowmobiles as an alternative, but we couldn't schedule another day so we decided on the ATVs. It was still a terrific experience!

Iceland has been our favourite travel destination so far with its extraordinary experiences. We worked with Jenny for the last 5-6 months to plan the itinerary. She was supportive and patient while listening to our interests and suggested a trip plan accordingly. I was very keen on seeing the Northern lights and thankfully she booked the ‘superjeep tour’ for us instead of the regular bus tour as it was faster and we could do off-roading. The tour was booked on the second last day of our trip, however after my request it was rescheduled to the first day in order to maximise our chances of viewing them. We were so lucky that we saw the lights on the first day itself, that too within 30 minutes of meeting the tour operator. The experience made all the difference to our Iceland trip. The other tours – Golden Circle, South Coast 2-day tour and dog sledding – were all amazing. The suggestion of booking a two-day South Coast trip was a great one by Jenny. It included glacier hiking which was wonderful. We had told her early on to avoid a strenuous hike and so she had booked accordingly.

One of our feedbacks would be to have a whatsapp group in order to enable quicker communication during our stay in Iceland. We had one when we went to Greece with kimkim last year and that was super helpful. Also, it took a long time to receive a final itinerary because of weather-related concerns, which made us nervous. But ultimately it all worked out and we are thankful to Jenny and the team for their hard work and for organising an amazing trip for us. Iceland is truly one of a kind.

Thank you,
Nilanjana and Cody

Northern Lights Hunt Super Jeep Tour
Iceland

This tour was definitely the cherry on top of the cake. The guide (Hjortur with Arctic Adventures) was funny and knowledgeable. He took us straight to a breathtaking view of Northern Lights within 30 minutes of picking us up from our hotel. The hot chocolate was spot on. We are glad Jenny booked the superjeep tour as it was faster, more efficient and we could do off-roading and go to places where a regular bus wouldn't. The aurora forecast was just moderate but the lights turned out more than spectacular and we consider ourselves very lucky. We are glad we booked this tour on the first night of our trip because it kept raining continuously the last three days of our stay.

What a great start to your trip seeing the aurora borealis on your first night!
Thank you for your suggestion of a Whattsapp group. This is not something we have at present, but we do have a 24 hour telephone number which, as a team, we share the responsibility of.
Sometimes the weather can change the best made plans and for you both this was the case. I am so glad you chose to take the 'dry land' dog tour after your sled tour was cancelled, I know meeting the dogs was something you were really looking forward to.

The whole trip was put together in such a timely manner -- and whenever we had questions for Jenny she responded immediately. Most of our activities were self-guided, and Jenny provided us with suggestions on sites to visit, the history of those sites, and how to get there. Also provided were places to eat, several which we tried, and we were never disappointed. Our nightly accommodations were just so great – clean and so comfortable and we liked the variety. Hotel staff was always so pleasant and helpful. With the maps provided by Jenny and the help of the car’s GPS we were able to get around without any difficulty. We never got lost!
The views were breathtaking – every turn on the road. So many different types of views: glaciers, volcanoes, craters, gorges, canyons, geothermal areas, black beaches, lava fields, seas, and an ocean. And don’t forget the waterfalls – everywhere you look there is a waterfall. The big ones were truly spectacular.
Not sure where our next trip will be, but we will definitely use kimkim again.

Our trip involved an internal flight to Egilsstadir where we picked up the hire car and then working our way back to Reykjavik via Lake Myvatn, Husavik, Laugarbakki, Heydalur, Isafjordur and the Snaesfellsnes Peninsula. Highlights were the Whale Trip at Husavik, seeing the Northern Lights and whales in the fjord at Hvammstangi and the stunning West Fjords but throughout the trip the scenery was fascinating and surprisingly varied.
We found Icelanders very helpful and friendly and most of the people we met spoke English. Not sure what it's like on the more touristy routes but it's work noting that there are very few public toilets when out in the country areas.

Thank you for your comments and five star rating.
You chose to take the lesser visited route traveling from the North via the West fjords. It's fantastic news to hear you got to see the Northern lights.

Regarding the hotel not being aware that your room was paid for. This seems to have been a miss understanding at the hotels reception. Often we (Iceland Offbeat) are invoiced after you have stayed with certain accommodation providers. This was not a problem though and was cleared up quickly.

Our experiences are too many to list, however, the weather was perfect and our hikes along the coast as well as to various waterfalls were exceptional. A bonus was our opportunity to see the northern lights! We had that opportunity on two occasions! Our only disappointment was it was too late in the season to see the puffins. I guess that will be a good excuse to return earlier in the summer.

We enjoyed clean, modern accommodations and the breakfasts were typical of European hotels with a plethora of options to meet anyone’s dietary desires. The Kim Kim staff was exceptional in providing us with great accommodations, wonderful tour guides, and they even found beautiful weather for us to experience this amazing country!

Hi Eileen,

To address your points:
We spoke in detail about the best and most cost effective rental vehicle for your group. After initially looking at a Kia Sportage, you added an additional person to your group and advised you would be taking four large suitcases. I then recommend upgrading to a Kia Sorento, 7 seater, which fits four suitcases in the boot space. It seems you took 7 large suitcases with you in total. If I had known this before your trip I would have absolutely advised you to have a larger vehicle. I am glad that Europcar were able to swap your vehicles over for you when you arrived.

In regards to the GPS and wifi. We arrange wifi with the rental vehicles so you can use the map links we provide to follow the entire route on a smartphone or tablet. This way we have provided you with precise locations so you get to the exact place you need. I am surprised that the wifi ran out, it may be that you were using it for more than just the day maps and went over the paid for amount. There are details which come with the device on how to add additional GB if needed.

I’m sad that you couldn’t enjoy your Super Jeep tour and guided hike at Thorsmork. Thorsmork is a truly spectacular place, and in fact is at the top of the list for some of the best hiking trails in Iceland. With any hiking in Iceland it’s really important to go prepared and have the correct footwear.

I hope that, despite the above, you have some wonderful memories of your ladies trip to Iceland. Your photos look fabulous, enjoy you free kimkim photobook!

Thank you Todd and Sharon for your comments.
You chose to take a fast passed trip and travel the Ring Road in 8 days. What great activities you picked to do along the way!
There are so many sights to see, especially on the South Coast as you say, it's our job to help pace your trip and spread out the driving.

We did all what you had on our to do list , also the options and as well as a few other things, we hiked one day over 16 K. Oh we did skip the sculpture walk in Reykjavic.
All the places we visited were memorable. One place not on our list was the Lava museum, we stopped there as it was raining that day. We really enjoyed it and have recommended it to others.
Sorry for being so long to reply, we have been so busy. Thank you Jenny for everything, and also to your team for caring for us as well when we had a few issues . We have recommended KIMKIM to others as well!!

We use the top rated tour companies and it's great to hear you were pleased with your guides, they really love what they do!
I'm a little envious, I have to say, that you got to witness ice breaking off the glacier, what a sight that must have been!

We could have stayed 2 extra days in Snaefellsnesd(sp) as well as an extra day in the Golden Circle.
The accommodations were great, nice staff and our last night had to be modified but I think resulted an amazing upgrade! We tried to hit all restaurants suggestions and they were spot on!
Our checkin for hotel and excursions were seamless.

Thank you for putting an 8 day trip together that was absolutely seamless

If you can at least try to see all the stops given, it’s worth it!!

Overall this was a fantastic trip. Accommodations were very nice and the trips took us to places that helped my kids and I form some amazing memories. Planning was easy, Jenny was always accessible before the trip and responded quickly to my inquiries, I would definitely work with her and Kimkim again. The last hotel did not have our booking (or really just couldn't find it) and Michele from Kimkim resolved the matter quickly.

The only thing that was disappointing is that there was no way we were awake enough after traveling for almost 24 hours to do the first event that was planned for us. We were really looking forward to snorkeling but having almost fallen asleep behind the wheel on the way there, it was not possible. I take some responsibility in not really thinking this through, however I'm also not sure how many people would be up for snorkeling after being awake/traveling through the night.

Of note: Google maps, was unreliable in some pretty significant ways. Make sure the option "rerouting to save time" is off on your preferences, but even when that is off, double check your destination with Waze or some other mapping program. There were at least 5 instances (that I can think of right now) where google took us the wrong way. Once, it actually put us in a somewhat dangerous situation that would have been very problematic had I continued on the road it recommended. I loved having the destinations mapped out, but after the first wrong directions I was constantly checking Waze. One time it literally had us turn right when we should have turned left and because there's often not a convenient/safe place to turn around, we had to travel 20 minutes in the wrong direction which again, is no one's fault but terribly annoying.

Despite these issues, this was a fantastic trip and I would work with Kimkim again.

Tammy,
I loved being part of your trip planning and helping you to create some wonderful memories with your children, which you will all hopefully treasure for years to come. This is truly one of my favourite parts of trip planning.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you had with google maps, you really did go 'off the beaten path' at one point but I am glad you found a solution.
