Introducing Zimbabwe

When is the best time to visit?
June to October is the dry season and the best time to view wildlife—animals are drawn to water sources, and low vegetation offers excellent visibility. Temperatures are moderate with cold mornings and evenings from June-August, while September and October are very hot (this is also when prices are highest). Rains can start as early as November, which makes for beautiful changes in the vegetation. The rainy season is in full swing from January through May, when you'll find hot, humid weather, and a drop in prices. During this time, there's still excellent game viewing in Hwange and Gonarezhou.

Where should you go?
Victoria Falls, the massive natural wonder on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, should be on every visitor's list. This is a year-round destination, though the flow over the falls changes from full flood to less dramatic levels depending on the season. Mana Pools National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River has excellent walking safaris, and remote, southeastern Gonarezhou is a lesser-known safari park off the beaten path. Eastern Highlands offers mountainous vegetation and a totally different experience to the safari track, while Lake Kariba is Zimbabwe's version of a beach holiday—a relaxing way to end a trip.

How many days do you need?
Travelers with at least ten days will be able to see 3 regions at a comfortable pace, with time for multiple days of safari at more than one location. With a week or less, stick to Victoria Falls and one short safari.

Victoria Falls
Best Time of Year to Visit Victoria Falls

One of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Victoria Falls will leave you with an everlasting impression. If you want to experience the falls at their peak, then April or May is the time to visit. In April, you will find the water levels at their highest level of the year, while during the dry season (especially October and November), you will witness the geological formations of the falls in their purest form. The wildlife here is also fantastic with many safari options in the area, particularly from May to October.

How Many Days Should You Spend At Victoria Falls?

Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world, attracts more than one million visitors each year. To make the most of your time here, you will want to visit for at least two days. Even if your time is limited, you can make your trip to the falls an exciting memory that will last a lifetime. To enjoy Victoria Falls to the fullest, plan a 3-4-day trip. If you want to explore the surrounding areas as well and embark on a Southern African safari, then we recommend that you visit for at least one week.
